Normally outwith our tight budget, we recently got to spend both a lovely reception and an overnight stay in The Waterside Hotel in Seamill. With quite the nautical theme going on, was it a case of all washed up or sailing on the high seas? Here’s our review of our one night stay.
This summer we’ve been lucky enough to have two lovely family weddings and with our pending nuptials, our family has certainly been utilising the phrase wait forever for one and three come along at once! Our first wedding of the summer granted a little trip down to Ayrshire with a lovely ceremony in Troon followed by the reception at The Waterside Hotel in Seamill.
With a little time between the ceremony and the evening meal, we took advantage of the time to get checked in and freshen up before the reception kicked off. Luckily there is plenty of parking at The Waterside Hotel so no issues with the car and a very swift check in at the desk before heading up to our room. At £135 a night we would never have normally booked this hotel but as part of the wedding party we were not covering the costs on our overnight stay but with a high price you’re looking for some high quality.
As you can see, the room did not disappoint. A large room with desk and tabled area, a balcony, wall mounted television and a jacuzzi bath – perfect. Also an excellent help for checking I was still looking tip top for our evening reception was a floor to ceiling mirrored wardrobe.
After a lovely evening dancing the night away, we headed to bed for a well earned sleep. Our kingsize bed was definitely comfy enough but sadly our room did get quite stuffy. Though I imagine it is rarely needed here in Scotland, some aircon or a fan would have been nice. As much as we tried, we couldn’t even get our window open to let a little air into the room and only in the morning with a good deal of force did we manage to get them open.
With a somewhat poor sleep due to uncomfortable temperatures, we were up pretty early considering our late night but this gave us a chance to try out the Jacuzzi bath. So we filled it up and with eager anticipation turned on the jets….only to get water everywhere and somewhat flood the bathroom.
Though we only spent one night in The Waterside Hotel, it proved a very nice place to spend an evening and a wonderful room with plenty of space. With a lovely view from our room and the added bonuses of the jacuzzi bath and very large wall mounted television, the room itself was great but was let down by a dodgy window that just wouldn’t open when we needed it to.
Overall, our stay at the Waterside Hotel was very good, we very much liked the nautical decor, everything was clean, neat and tidy and any staff we spoke to were lovely and happy to help. Despite a few niggles we would still recommend the hotel if this is the budget you are working with. Our room was classed as Deluxe being only one step up from Standard but The Waterside has six further room and suite options up to Spa room which includes a personal sauna though that will cost you considerably more pennies!
