Here in Scotland, winter has been quite rotten. Being rather mild and therefore horridly wet we’d really started to ache for a little sunshine. So we both put in some holiday time at work only for Andrew’s to be accepted and mine to be rejected right up until 4 days before. So with my time off going through last minute I set to it to find us somewhere sunny to spend a few days and on a budget!
We had already been looking around for idea of where to go and had considered places like Marrakesh which was cheap in February but turns out not so cheap when trying to book last minute at the end of March.
In the hope of finding last minute package deals we searched all the big holiday sites and the discount trip finder ones too but nothing seemed to match our dates and budgets. Things weren’t looking good but I wasn’t giving up.
Finally, Alpha Rooms proved to be our saviour finding us a one week holiday option in Mallorca. Perfect apart from price but we know better than to accept a third party offer. With a plan now in place we set about braking down the package into each component and we found ourselves a bargain.
Booking our hotel in S’Illot, Mallorca through Travel Republic rather than Alpha Rooms dramatically reduced the price. We opted to fly out from Glasgow International Airport but to return to Glasgow Prestwick which again gave us a massive discount on flights. Another surprise was how much our flight reduced by booking direct. Out of sheer luck we got the last two seats on a Thomson flight out which mean a bargain price and two happy travellers.
Moral of the story don’t give up on last minute travel, never accept the first offer you come across and always try to split up packages. Middle men will add on admin fees and additional costs so it will always to worth while to book direct if you can!
